Elementary Literacy Endowment

The Elementary School will continue to expand the work begun with much promise in the literacy area. Elementary students are assessed through DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basis Early Literacy) and the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA). Based on results of these assessments, reading interventions take place for students working with a faculty member often in a one-on-one situation. In addition, the Guided Reading approach is being used at the elementary level that allows students to read a their appropriate level and advance based on their progress. The Guided Reading program uses level reading books that support differentiated reading instruction. There is a need to expand the number of leveled readers available throughout the elementary school.
